I’m feeling really happy today! Mom and dad had spent last night at Calgary Airport due to their flight being cancelled from Calgary to Tokyo because of bad weather (Lightning, Thunder, etc.). – They got rebooked and luckily enough got moved from a Tango Fare to a Latitude Fare. I was able to use my Air Canada e-Upgrade credits to get them an upgrade from Calgary (YYC) to Vancouver (YVR) to Hong Kong (HKG). This is pretty much their first time flying business class, so I am extremely excited and happy that they get to be blessed and have an incredible journey to Asia this afternoon. – Thank you Air Canada for treating me and my family so amazing. Your rewards program is brilliant and you have allowed us to Experience great things!

The real funny thing is that both Dad and I have known all day that they got bumped and we have been telling her she will have an emergency exit so she can enjoy a little extra leg room!  We have also been teasing her about sleeping on the plane and having mimosas and enjoying some port and cheese!

Also, a special thank you to Gayle from AC Concierge in Calgary for taking great care of my parents yesterday in Calgary as well as Gina from ACSE Desk for ensuring my parents got rebooked ASAP. I am looking forward to family vacation this upcoming weekend. I will see you on the party bus AC63 on Saturday!

Travel and flight bookings can be a real pain in the neck, so what is the best solution when booking a trip? How do you scope out the best deal? Generally speaking, there is somewhat of a detailed process that I follow to shop for flights. Firstly,…read more…

Travel is always best when shared with others; some prefer to travel with a friend, their loved one or with their kids. I had a good chuckle this week while watching the April fools video ‘Kargokids’ by Westjet. As a frequent flyer, I can definitely…read more…

Have you ever wondered, when traveling, how people get free upgrades to business class? Why does that person get to sit in the emergency exit row or why do those people get to sit in the bulkhead? Well, your first guess is probably that they paid for…read more…

I saw in the Province (Vancouver) newspaper today that Virgin Atlantic will be starting YVR-LHR flights starting May 24, 2012. I am unsure if this is seasonal or will be a daily operation?  In any case, Virgin Atlantic is one of those Airlines that I have yet to fly. I have been on Virgin America a few times which was absolutely brilliant.  I am excited to see a new airline fly from Vancouver and offer more flexibility and more options when traveling to Europe.  It would be great to see Virgin join the Star Alliance, so that I could start using Virgin Atlantic (or at least try) when I go to Europe…  in any case May 24, 2012 is my 1-year wedding anniversary for my wife and I, so if you want to send me to London for the weekend with my wife on the inaugural flight, that would be sweet!

Off the top…sorry Lufthansa

And the airline award for the most damn uncomfortable seat goes to Lufthansa. Yes, I said Lufthansa – I do not remember traveling in seats that were like sitting on a 2×4. They are definitely “military” style seats. Lol (I will upload pic later)

The flight this past week from Frankfurt to Doha and then onto Manama was on an Airbus 340. I took several pillows and put them under my toosh. On Tuesday night back to Frankfurt, I didn’t get that same pleasure with the extra pillows, just the pleasure of having a sore sore flat ass. In any case you are considering overseas flights you may want to check seat comfyness reviews. I give Lufthansa a 6 and that is only because it reclines quite a bit, in fact much further than Air Canada. Air Canada seats are more plush and comfortable for longer flights.

The food on Lufthansa was not all that bad, better than majority of airlines I think. I do appreciate the fact that give me metal cutlery so I can poke the man beside me who should have bought two seats, since he took up 35% of my seat. There is nothing more annoying than having to share your seat with a big sweaty stranger. Yuck!

One thing I am extremely interested to know is about baggage allowance across the whole Star Alliance. As for myself I am a Star Alliance Gold member (Air Canada Super Elite). I know Air Canada allows me to check in Three pieces of Luggage to any destination I go, thinking back to times I have flown on other Star Alliance carries such as ANA, Thai Airways, United, etc it has not been a problem to check three pieces in.

I have just boarded Air Canada flight AC844 from Calgary to Frankfurt, it is not really a long flight, but an Air Canada eUpgrade is always welcome! About half my flights are upgraded On Air Canada, but riding in the back of the bus isn’t always so bad as their seats are quite comfortable and their service is generally quite good. I usually have no complaints about where I sit, as long as it is not a middle seat! Heres a little picture of my Air Canada Suite. This is where I will rest my head for the next 9.5 hours.

One more thing, I am not sure if it’s my imagination, but it feels like the A330 suites are bigger than those on a 767 or 777?

Thank you Air Canada!
